The Norwich North District was formed
over forty years ago as one of four Districts from the original Norwich
Scout Council, which had its own Town Commissioner. At a later stage,
a little over twenty years ago it was decided to form a fifth district
- Norwich Central - comprising all the groups within the Ring Road and
realign the boundaries of the others. As a result of this, we lost the
3rd, 25th and 29th and gained 1st Spixworth. A further boundary and district
name review took place during 2002, and as a result the new District called
Northern Norwich was formed. This new district comprises all the groups
from the old Norwich North plus 3rd/4th, 11th, 25th, 2nd Reepham and Cawston.
We remain one of the smallest districts geographically in the County of
Norfolk, but are the largest numerically, having around 1250 members in
a total of fourteen groups.
But that's enough about our history. Today Scouting can be more exciting
than ever, especially with the new age structure and additional sections
to cater for young people age from 6 - 25 years, complimented by completely
new programme material for all.
Some of the Groups in our District have their own Web Sites. Please follow
the "District Groups" link under "District Info" to visit them. There
are details about the groups including facilities available.
By far the most important information is the up-to-date news and events.
Follow the "News" link for events and reports for each section. This section
is constantly updated so keep a look out for new events!
